METHODS OF ENTRY, SELECTION AND APPLICATION FORM FOR GENERAL PURPOSE (GP) & CERTIFICATE COURSE IN MARITIME CATERING SELECTION
Candidates desiring to join the 6 months Pre-Sea Residential Training in General Purpose (GP) or Certificate Course in Maritime Catering (CCMC) have to apply in the prescribed form. Candidates will be called for a written examination and interview. Candidates who qualify have to undergo medical test by Doctor approved by the Director General of Shipping & appointed by the Trust.
GENERAL PURPOSE SELECTION

MARITIME CATERING SELECTION
Application forms are available at National Union of Seafarers Of India, NUSI Bhavan, 4-Goa Street, Ballard Estate, Mumbai -400 038 and also at NUSI Maritime Academy, Chinchinim, Salcete, Goa. The cost of application form is Rs. 150/- in cash or Rs. 180/- (By Post) DD to be made in favour of “NUSI / ITF Trust for Indian Seafarers”, payable at Mumbai, along with self addressed envelope.

ELIGIBILITY FOR PRE-SEA COURSES ADMISSION
Admission is open to all Indian citizens, who are between the age of 17 ½ to 25 on the date of commencement of the course. The Date of birth as given on the passport will be taken as authentic.
PASSPORT IS COMPULSORY
As per M.S. (Medical Examination for Seafarers) Rules 2000 as amended from time to time:
HEIGHT: Minimum 5ft. 2 inches OR 158 cms.
WEIGHT: Minimum 105 pounds OR 48 kgs.
CHEST: 72.5 cms, (expandable to 77.5 cms.)
EYESIGHT: As per M.S. rules above. No colour blindness.
All selected candidates will undergo a physical fitness test prior to joining the Academy.
Minimum qualification is as follows:-
MARITIME CATERING : Minimum STD. XIIth passed with overall 40% marks and 40% marks in English in STD. XIIth or STD Xth.
GENERAL PURPOSE: Minimum STD. Xth passed with overall 40% and English, Science, Mathematics as subjects and 40% marks in English at Xth or XIIth OR ITI (Govt. Approved) – 2 years engineering trades with minimum 50% overall marks in final year and 40% marks in English in Xth.
Photo Copies (Not Originals) of the following certificates should be enclosed with the application.
A) Xth/ XIIth certificate and marksheet
B) ITI certificate and mark sheet if applicable
A) One photograph to be affixed on the right top corner of the application
B) Three extra photographs are required at the time of interview.
All the above enclosures, including the photograph affixed on the right top corner of the application should be duly attested.
Original certificates shall have to be produced at time of the interview.
6 Months residential course
All selected candidates have to pay fees by Demand Draft which is to be made “NUSI / ITF Trust for Indian Seafarers”, payable at Mumbai. The cost of uniform is to be paid directly to the tailor and medical test charges to the D.G. Approved Doctor & appointed by the Trust.
Caution Money, which is required to be paid in cash at the academy, is refunded to the trainees at the time of passing out after deductions if any towards breakages as per rules.
ISSUE OF CDC
CDC will be issued to candidates on completion of training, passing swimming test, internal exams and exit exams and as per guidelines given by Director General Of Shipping and amended from time to time.
Academy rules will be given to joining trainees. The trainees and their parents/guardians will undertake that they have read and understood the Academy rules and that they will be in strict compliance.
Trainees will be dismissed if they do not follow rules. Fees or part thereof will not be refunded.
WITHDRAWAL FROM ACADEMY
In case of willful discontinuation, the trainee and the trainee’s parents/guardian apply to the captain superintendent in the prescribed form.
Fees or any part thereof will not be refunded.
